Jewellery Storage without the Box

Don't get me wrong, jewellery boxes rock. You can find one for any taste or revamp a classic (I currently have 16 waiting for a new coat of paint). That being said, jewellery boxes aren't for everyone and they aren't for every place because you need to have somewhere to put it.
 
I compiled a list of alternatives and space saving ideas for keeping your jewellery straight - because untangling the pile on your dresser just isn't fun.
 
Ice Cube Trays

Organize your earrings and other dainty jewellery in ice cube trays. They are easy to stack and you can label the handles for easy browsing. If you have a drawer to put them in, you can lay them flat like they did below, or take advantage of the drawers height and stack them.

Artwork
 
Store your jewellery and use it as artwork at the same time. You can hang it up using rails, a sheet of metal with intricate cut-outs or even a hanger with hooks on it.

Mirror or Picture Organizer
 
Go out and buy, or even make, a storage unit that doubles as a mirror. This is a great idea because it serves multiple purposes which is important when organizing your small apartment.  I have always loved this idea and plan on making one out of a mirror I got for 7$ at Walmart. I may even theme the mirror after the Mirror of Erised from my all time favourite movie! Instructions will come as soon as I get it done - fingers crossed it is within the next few weeks!
 
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I'm not sure how you'd build it, but a mirror that opens up into secret jewelry storage? I'll take one!:
 
Binder
 
Organize your jewellery in a binder. All it takes is miniature baggies, trading card storage pages and a binder.

Repurposed Kitchenware
 
Repurpose tea cups and desert trays to display your jewellery in a unique way. You can even make a tray similar to the one below using candle stems and plates. If you don't have any of these items on hand, check out garage sales and thrift stores!

    Great idea, these ways of storing jewelry are very practical, I prefer to put them in the box.
